Nach der offiziellen Markteinführung des AMD Opteron vergangene Woche (News), melden sich nun die ersten Hersteller mit entsprechenden Hauptplatinen. Zu diesen gehört auch Server-Spezialist Tyan, der bereits für den Athlon MP passende Dual-Platinen entwickelte. "Fremont, CA, April 28th, 2003 – Tyan® today introduced the Thunder K8S S2880, an AMD Opteron™ processor-based platform targeted for rackmount and pedestal servers. Tyan, a leader in innovative motherboard design in multiple market segments, unleashes the two-way platform that delivers AMD64 technology for today’s most rigorous server applications.
The Thunder K8S S2880 optimizes the AMD Opteron™ processor’s key features, such as 64-bit CPU processing coupled to an integrated memory controller to reduce memory and front side bus bottlenecks. Also, the HyperTransport™ technology chip-to-chip interconnections increase overall performance by providing high bandwidth and minimizing latency.
The Thunder K8S S2880 offers unique features designed specifically for rackmount and pedestal servers. It is the first dual AMD Opteron™ processor platform that offers both Serial ATA and SCSI options for high storage capabilities, while dual Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports heighten network connectivity and bandwidth on a PCI-X bus. In addition, its low profile I/O ports and its six strategically placed front-to-back aligned memory slots supporting up to 12GB allow maximum airflow across the platform for effective system cooling.
The solution also offers PCI-X 133/100 riser card support, integrated VGA graphics with 8MB local memory, IPMI v1.5 remote management for convenient yet powerful control, and simultaneous 32-bit and 64-bit computing across various operating systems for flexible IT transitioning.
